Call Sheet (Including Template)

The Call Sheet

The daily call sheet is a just a sheet of paper issued to the cast and crew of a film production informing them where and when they should report for a particular day of shooting. On larger productions these would usually be created by a 2nd Assistant Director but if you are on a smaller shoot, you may do these yourself.

Call sheets also include other useful information such as contact information (e.g. phone numbers of crew members and other contacts), the schedule for the day, which scenes and script pages are to be shot, and the address of the shoot location. Call sheets may also provide logistical information regarding the location. It is common to find weather information, sunrise/sunset times, etc. Call sheets have information about cast transportation arrangements, parking instructions and safety notes.

No matter what production you are on, it’s always a great idea to have a call sheet. There are four reasons why I insist on them:

  1. There are no mysteries. No body is left out of the loop wondering who, what or when.
  2. Open communication. If the 1st AD is hit by a car, and the producer is in prison, then we still have all the contact information to go ahead with the shoot.
  3. Centralised information. Any question could be answered in a single glance. Questions such as,
    • What’s next?
    • Are we running behind time?
    • What time do the midgets arrive on set?
    • Where-is-the-hospital? Mother-of-all-things-sacred-i-have-no-reception-and-i’m-bleeding-everywhere! Where-is-the-bloody-hospital?!
  4. Everyone is aware of their responsibilities. Where they have to be, what they have to wear, how they have to act.

Please find a sample call-sheet that I use frequently on my love projects at the bottom of the page.

Is there any way that you would improve this call sheet?
